Description

Find out why it's important to consult attorneys who are "dementia-capable" when assisting those with cognitive impairment and their families. This special presentation is an opportunity to learn from two noted experts on dementia-capability and legal/ethical issues. David Godfrey, JD, is a senior attorney with the Commission on Law and Aging at the American Bar Association in Washington, DC and has presented nationally on this topic. Daniel Marson, JD, PhD is a clinical neuropsychologist, licensed attorney and Director of the University of Alabama at Birmingham Alzheimer's Disease Center. He also lectures nationally on competency in neurocognitive disorders and is widely published. He also specializes in financial capacity in the elderly. There will be an overview of dementia and assessing capacity, defining a dementia-capable professional, balancing autonomy and protection from abuse, neglect and exploitation, and finding and working with dementia-capable attorneys.
